It's more than a mask,
It is inspired by protective roof tiles. Inspired by the Oni gawara (the ridge tiles carved in the shape of demons) that have adorned the roofs of Japanese temples for centuries, this mask was made as a protective figure.
Contrary to appearances, the Oni does not grimace to frighten you, but to frighten away the misfortune that would try to enter your home.
The Symbolism of "Aka-Oni" (Red Oni)
In folklore, red (aka) is the most powerful color. It symbolizes vital energy, intensity, and the ability to ward off the demons of disease and misfortune.
- The expression: Wide eyes that see everything and a clenched jaw ready to bite negativity. - Use: Ideal to place in an entrance or opposite a door to "guard the passage, or as a centerpiece of an Asian wall decoration.
